Quarna smiled at her charges choices, no longer worried about finding Riders, the clutchlings had done it for her. She snuggled deeper into Gerret's embrace, happy that things were finally going her way, when the hatchlings put up a piteous creel.
"What does she want?" he yelled holding her at arms length. Quarna laughed.
"They're hungry." She explained. "It's been found that the best substitute for a gryphons milk is goats milk warmed, add some honey and iron powder for minerals." Gerret looked down at her.
"I think we can substitute iron powder for some run of the mill chewable vitamins." he smiled at her. She smiled back.
"And I have no idea where to get goats milk in LA." Jonah exclaimed.
"I'm sure you can use regular milk." Maniah soothed, patting his shoulder. Jonah whipped up a batch to Quarna's specifications and as soon as the two makeshift bottles were pressed against the gryphlings beaks they quieted, suckling and knawing on the teats to get the milk out. It was a very messy business. As the two Riders continued to feed their future mounts, Quarna gave them the low-down on what would happen as they grew.
"As the hatchlings grow, you will develop a language all your own, that only you can understand. You will become a best friend, a gaurdian, a mentor. You will become mentally linked to your charge in wys you cna't understand. When the female comes into breeding age, you will be unable to stop certain urges, the gryphons mating will inspire similar feelings in the Riders, resulting in..." she let her sentance fade.
(OOC: Why don't we let Rick have some issues accepting this, having to be gay. And what if Maniah trys to tell Jonah that she likes him, and he has to tell her his secret? Sounds good yes? thoughts?)

(I thought of the same thing with Maniah...It just has to be the right time. As for Rick...That'd be fun as well as keeping Maniah in the dark...*evil smile*) Rick was fine with this for a moment until his eyes bulged as realisation hit him. "You mean...The riders will do what their gryphons will do? With the other rider?" he asked, quite freaked out. He'd have to...With Jonah...That was just wrong... Yes, Rick had certain feelings towards a few certain guys but...Not Jonah, he was a friend...Jonah didn't like him that way anyway right? So then they were both in the wrong boat. Maniah sighed at hearing this. Why couldn't one of the gryphons picked HER instead of Rick... (Jealousy...And Jonah's going to have it a lil rough at first, muhahahaha)

Jonah just stared, his mouth forming a slight "O". Have sex, with Rick? Of course he'd thought of it a time or two, when he was... alone. But it really happening? He'd never thought of such a thing. Sky squaked angrily. In his stupor he had moved the bottle further away from the little gryphon. Smiling stupidly he returned the bottle to its drinker.
The group sat in akward silence for a moment before they were rudely interupted. In a loud "pop" of displaced air a small gryphon like creature appeared in the livingroom.
"KIYAN!" Quarna exclamed in surprise and jumped up to embrace the small gryphon.
"But I thought you said you weren't a rider?" Gerret exclaimed.
"I'm not, Kiyan is a gryph." Quarna patted the happy beast on the head. "Smaller and less inteligent than Gryphons, gryphs have a power that their larger cousins don't. They can teleport. Their also fire creatures while Gryphons are air creatures. So their bond is more empathetic than telepathic." The rest of the group looked at her odd. "They feel more than sense. Physical feelings rather than emotions and urges. When they hurt, you hurt, and visa-versa. They can be very useful gaurdians. Better than dogs. When I turned twelve, my father gave him to me for a birthday present." She smiled at her pet. "Much more a pet than a gryphon is a partner."
The gryph waltzed over to the baby gryphon in Rick's lap. He sniffed it, his toungue hanging out the side of his open beak. Orin sniffed back. Satisfied Kiyan wandered over to a free space of rug, walked in a circle like a dog and collapsed onto his belly, legs splayed. The momentary lapse had given Jonah time to think about his dilemma. He'd never even told Maniah about his secret, let alone Rick. His parents had only discovered it, hell he had only discovered it, about two years ago, when he started college. How was he going to tell his o-so-straight-looking roomate that he was GAY? What could he do.
"Excuse me." He said lifting the now sleeping Sky in his arms, his voice cracking in his nervousness. He cleared his throught. "I need sometime to digest this." There went his voice again. Without another word he left to his room, though he didn't close the door.
~*~*~ Pyde shimmered back into an alley in downtown, he clutched his arm. Though his demon blood allowed him to regenerate, it still hurt like a b**ch! He punched a nearby mirror and it shattered into pieces.
"Oh d**n it, bad luck!" Pyde cursed. "Like I need more of it!" He slammed against a wall. Slowly the pain eased, and his mind cleared. "I need a plan," he told himself aloud. "I have to get that girl back to Tarval before the eggs hatch. I will be a Rider. If someone has to die to get it."
~~~~*~~~~ If that's not an opportune time I don't know what is. How will Pyde get Quarna back to Torval? How did Kiyan teleport across planes? How will Quarna and her new Riders get to Torval? Will they even want to go? Find out in the next exciting installment of To Save a Kingdom!
Maniah noticed that Jonah left his door open and saw that no one was payiong any particular attention to her. They were either in their lover's arms, feeding a gryphon, or just lounging on a rug. She excused herself from the room and went to Jonah's door, knocked on it lightly and asked if she was allowed in. He nodded with not too much ethusiasm and Maniah went in, closing the door behind her. What the hell was she doing? Where was this bit of courage to tell him coming from? Or was it the thought of possibly losing him forever to Rick as a Rider? She gave a small smile and sat down on the bed next to Jonah. "So much has happened in one day, hasn't it?" she started. A good way to start, right? Right. Rick watched his friend go into his room and shook his head. There was no way that they could...No, they were both as straight as a line and gryphons urges weren't going to change that...Well maybe her had a bump or two in his line but that didn't count... Rick looked down at his gryphon who had basically put it's self to sleep after a nice meal and sighed with a smile. It was so darn cute. (It's fine cause the word wound up being blocked due to weird censored words. Plus PG-13 is fine by all means to me.)
Jonah didn't look up from the sleeping Sky. This day was way to difficult. He knew Maniah had come here for answers, and she had a right to know. If anyone did, it was her, well maybe Rick too, bu the could wait. He took a deep breath.
"Yeah," why the hell was this so hard? "I have something to tell you. I've never told anyone before, outside my parents, so don't stop me once I start because I don't think I could continue if I stopped." He took another deep breath.
"When I went of to college almost two years ago now, I was happy, self assured and content. I had grown up in a small town, so I didn't learn about the things most people learn about growing up, aside from what my parents told me. My first week in my dorm I was invited to a party, there... there was drinking... and girls and all sorts of things that a freshman probably should have known about, but I didn't. And there was this guy... he told me that I was cute... and I didn't know any better because of my upbringing and because I was drunk... and he took me upstairs, and we..." He let the sentence fall, a tear fell off his cheek onto his hand at the same time.
"We stayed together for awhile, but when my parents came down for a visit, I told him to stay away. He... he told me that I had to choose, him or my parents. So I told them. They were okay with it, my mother was even relieved a bit, she thought that I wrong or something for not dating in High School." Jonah took a deep breath, he it goes.
"The reason I said no to that time you asked me out... and ignored you when you flirted with me... is because... because... I'm gay." He was surprised to find very feminine arams wrap him in a hug.
"Oh honey," Quarna cried, tears on her own cheeks. "I don't care that your gay, or even if your not. You saved me, and my legacy, and I'll always love you for that." she had tears running down her own cheeks.
"I... I thought the door was closed." Jonah said, surprised. Gerret had come to hug him too, but Jonah suspected it might have had to do with Quarna.
"Well, Maniah closed it but the latch didn't catch. So it opened back up. Jonah, you've done so much today, befriended a gryphon, joined a long-gone legacy, told your secret, Honey, I am proud to have you as a Rider." she hugged him again. "What do you think Maniah? Rick?" Jonah then noticed Rick at the door, his arms crossed.
~*~*~ What will Maniah do? Jonah's secrets out, what can Rick think? Stay tuned to find out!
Maniah was stunned. She had thought that those few times she asked him out or flirted with him was because of him having a girlfriend and being a proper boyfriend by ignoring it. She was obviously quite wrong. After the first stages of shock set in, sadness replaced it. The tell tale signs of tears were beginning to tell her she ought to get out of there before she had a waterfall of them blowing out of her eyeballs. Her throat tightened and her vision blurred slightly. She looked at Jonah and nodded. "I see..." was all she could mutter for a few moments before regaining a bit more of her voice and acting like she HAD to go somewhere. She looked at her watch and nodded. "Well, I must be going..." she said, on the verge of tears, obvious in her voice. With that she disappeared, going back home to cry her eyes out. Rick saw the sadness that overcame Maniah and felt very sorry for her. She didn't want to show it so she went home in a flash, teleporting there. Rick shook his head at this and then let his mind process this further. It hadn't quite hit him yet until her uncrossed his arms and his jaw dropped slightly. Jonah was gay...So then maybe they weren't in the wrong boat...Well, maybe he was...And Jonah wasn't. In any case Jonah was gay. He closed his mouth once he noticed he was sort of gawking and thought this out. Okay, so they'd have urges...But did it mean it would be for each other? I mean, come on...They could always find another girl...Or guy, whichever suited one best when these urges came around if they were normal ones...But what if they were stronger. Then that would cause a problem. Jonah was a friend, not a love interest. Except for that one time when Rick was really lonely and saw Jonah sleeping on the couch and he was so cute that he wanted kiss him...But that was just part of his bump in his straight line. Nothing more nothing less.
Jonah have rose from his bed. "I should go after her." His movement was stayed by Quarna's hand. "Wait, I'll go, you should stay here with Sky." He slowly lowered himself to the bed. His friend hated him, that was the only answer. He should have never told her. S**t! Quarna stood and took Gerret's hand. Do you have a spell? she asked him mind to mind. Infact I do, say with me. And suddenly, like with Pyde's spell (which she wasn't so sure it was Pyde anymore) the spell was in her head, she began to recite with Gerret. "Powers of the witches rise, Course unseen across the skies. Send us to our missing soul, take our party, and make it whole." They vanished in a string of white lights and bell sounds. They appeared in a dark room, the lights were off and they could here muffled sobs. "Light." Quarna said, and an orb of magical light appeared in her hand, she set it on the dresser. Maniah was on her bed, face in her pillow, crying. "Now whats all this about? Jonah just told us his biggest secret and you go off like you hate him. He needs you right now, and you're letting him down." Quarna ran too Maniah's bed and grabbed her shoulders. "Come on, you can't leave him now." Gerret placed a hand on Quarna's shoulder. "Maybe she needs some time alone." "But he thinks she hates him." Quarna replied stoutly. "I saw it in his face. When you left so suddenly Maniah, his face got all sad." She stood back up, her cheek on Gerret's hand. "Will you come? Please? We need you." her voice was no more than a whisper. ~*~*~*~*~ OOC: sorry it took so long. Life caught up with me!
Maniah looked up from the pillow that was quite soaked with tears only because she was basically forced to. When she was told that Jonah thought she hated him her heart dropped even more. "I...I don't hate him...Quite the opposite in fact...I thought...I thought we had Spiritik...But he just hadn't noticed it yet....But apparently I was wrong...Way wrong...." she said as she tried to regain herself and looked about for a tissue or two. She finally spotted the box on her bedside table and blew her nose. After discarding the tissues she wiped her face and sighed. "How the hell am I supposed to explain THAT to him?" she asked either one. Rick stayed behind, watching this all happen and then went to go sit by his friend. He hadn't known too much about Maniah since she wasn't really his friend, more like Jonah's, but he could see the hurt in her own eyes when Jonah told her he was gay. It was if someone had punched her the stomach, he had seen it in her eyes, all the life seemed to go out of them for a second. Maybe it was shock, or something else, but he did know that Maniah wouldn't hate his friend JUST because he was gay. Rick looked down at Sky and then his own gryphon. "She'll be back...Don't worry." he told his friend with a smile and then saw Jonah's face and read it like a book. "She doesn't hate you Jonah. Not because of your prolonged secret or for any other matter. None of us do." he told him.
Jonah wiped his eyes on his sleeve. "I guess." He still didn't really believe it. Why else would she leave? He didn't understand. He leaned up against Rick using his sorrow as an excuse to touch him. His tears had stopped. "Thanks." he said weakly.
~*~
Quarna looked Maniah in the eye for a moment, then hugged her briefly. "Honey, I know that must be a let down for you. Speeking from one who's been there." She smiled weakly.
"Who?" Maniah asked, unknowingly shadowing Jonah as she wiped her eyes.
"Pyde." Quarna said sadly. She looked away.
"Really?" Gerret asked, from what he had read in her mind and seen of the man, he didn't look very... likable.
"Yeah. I made a mistake, we all do sometimes." She smiled at Maniah. "But sweety we need you. We need all the power we've got to get back home and I value your opinion so much. I need another female mind in the group or else I'll go insane." she smiled at her. "So will you come back and work this out."
Maniah smiled at the comment about another female mind being needed and wiped the last of her tears away. "Alright, I suppose I can." She got up, straightned herself out and saw that her eyeliner had run. No way was she going to go back looking like that. After saying a quick spell it was all fixed and she hadn't even the slightist look of crying. Aside from still red eyes...And a runny nose...But that was it. Rick smiled and nodded. When Jonah touched him thought he felt some sort of spark. What the hell was that? It was nothing....It had to be... Rick ignored it and hugged his friend briefly before nodding. "Trust me, she'll be back..." As if Rick was slightly magical, although he was not, Maniah returned with the other two and looked at Jonah. "You okay?" she asked at seeing his sadened face. She could only hope it wasn't because of her that she saw a tear or two run down his face.
Jonah felt the spark, only it felt more like a tug to him, and he decided to be daring and lean in closer. Rick didn't pull away. "Yeah he said, I'm better now." He stood and gave Maniah a hug. "Thanks for coming back. I was scared you hated me." He smiled. "Kinda silly huh?" She nodded.
"Ok people. Now that the eggs are hatched, I feel much safer going back to Torval. So we need a spell, and probably a potion and circle. I basically made it hear by luck. We'll need more than luck, we'll need precision." She looked around. Gerret raised his hand.
"I can write a spell." he told his love. Jonah nodded.
"He's great at spells I've asked him for a vanquishing spell or two in my time." Maniah looked at her.
"I'll make the potion. I don't run an ingredients store for nothing." SHe smiled.
"I'll get candles and a lighter." Jonah said, and turned to Rick. "Could you watch the chicks? I know you must feel superflorus." Jonah smiled, and left, his hand tracing Rick cheek bone briefly, taking another chance.
Maniah smiled at Jonah when he told her what he thought was the matter. "Me? Hate you? How I could I ever?" she said with a smile. She then turned her attetnion to the potion business and smiled. "What sort of potion might we be talking about here?" she asked. Sure, it was going to take her some time to get over Jonah and hopefully find another guy, but it was going to take a while. One thing she couldn't help but notice was how Jonah was putting a few moves on Rick, which she didn't particularly care for, but she'd live. Rick seemed to notice both actions that Jonah did but tried to brush them off. Jonah didn't like him...THAT way, did he? Sure, he was gay but...Nah... He nodded at Jonah and smiled. "Watching the 'kids' should be no problem at all." One thing that slightly bothered Rick was how he actually enjoyed being touched by Jonah. His fantasies that once in a while included men, never involved Jonah....But by the way he was feeling when Jonah touched him, Jonah just might be the newest addition to those fantasies.
As each continued their part of the spell. Quarna brushed and talked to Kiyan quietly. Everyone was surprised to see the gryph nodding his head, like a human. Quarna finished her conversation and came to check up on everyone. She exemplified leadership, something she hadn't shown in years, she was truly queen of Torval now.
"We're looking for a transportation spell." Jonah said and went over to Maniah to help her out. Together they gathered the ingredients. Owl feather, unicorn hair, beezor etc.
Five white candles were set in a circle oriented east to west. A cast iron cauldron was set in the center the potion ingredients infront of it. The sleeping Sky and Orin were set inside where they wouldn't cause any harm. Rick's job in the spell was to watch the sleeping gryphons. Three of the four mages stood in a north to south triangle inside the candles. Gerret passed around copies of his completed spell. Maniah sat next to the cauldron and ingredients. Kiyan lounged beside the cauldron.
"Are you ready boy?" Quarna asked her gryph. He stood and flicked his long catlike tail, his toungue hanging out. He nodded. "Kiyan is going to lead us home." Quarna explained. "Take on of his feathers and add it to the potion last." She told Maniah. "Don't worry it won't hurt him." She stood back up straight and tall. "Alright everyone, ready?" There were six nods, five from humans, one from a gryph. The witches began to chant.
"Life to Life," A rose petal was added to the cauldron
"And Time to Time," The owl feather was added.
"Our Spirits now will intertwine." The unicorn hair was wound into the potion, the cauldron began to steam, covering everyones feet in mist.
"We join our souls," A crystal was added for each member in the circle, red for humans, and blue for gryphons.
"and journey too," Maniah added a piece of parchment with the ancient wicken symbol for journey on it. The fog rolled out of the cauldron, now rising to the standing persons navels.
"The place whose sights," Maniah stood in the middle, Kiyan's feather clutched in her hand.
"We wish we knew."
Maniah tossed the last ingredient into the cauldron. A loud explosion sounded and great plumes of smoke rose from the cauldron, it enveloped them all. Kiyan winked out of the visible spectrum.
Quarna raised entwined hands to her lips and breathed, "Torval," There was an even louder "pop!" of displaced air and the group of witches and Riders was nolonger in Jonah's living room.
~*~ Pyde felt the spell from his position across town. "NO!" He shouted, his eyes wide. He shimmered to the apartment.
All he found was an empty room slowly clearing out of smoke. He cursed and shimmered out of the visible spectrum. ~*~*~
Quarna and her crew came out into Torval on a wooded rise above Torvals capital, Cairn. They looked about as if they had never seen it before, altough most hadn't.
"Wow," Jonah said standing slowly from his position flat on his back. A very large beak assisted him. "Thanks," he said, then took a double take. There was Sky, behind her a larger Orin, both much more matured. They looked similar to the Sky and Orin he knew, but much bigger and adult looking.
"What... what happened to them?" He asked dumbfoudned. Quarna smiled.
~*~ Oh! What happened to Sky and Orin? Why are they all grown up? stay tuned to find out!
Maniah looked about herself and took in the sights. "It's so...Nice here..." she said with a smile. Her attention then turned to Jonah and the gryphons. "Are those...Sky and Orin?" she asked bewildered. Orin went to Rick and nudged him slightly until Rick looked at his own gryphon in surprise. "Orin? How...How did he..they grow?" he asked as he looked from one gryphon to the other.
Quarna's smile grew. "I think," she rose her hand in slight confusion. "if I remember my learning correctly, Gryphons are affected differnently than humans in a time/space spell." Her face showed her apparent confusion, thought inside she was bouncing in glee. "But this is a good thing. The gyhons have matured sufficiently to be a positive fighting force, no longaer a liability." She smiled at her newly minted Riders.
"But what does ths mean for our gryphons?" Jonah asked. 'What happens to Sky?" He was surprised at how worried he was at this.
Nothing has happened. I am fine. said a voice in Jonah's head.
"Who said that?" he asked looking about wildly.
"Said what?" Quarna asked looking at him odd.
I said that said the voice in his head, obviously female, yet resembling his own. Jonah looked at Sky. She shook her now large head at him.
"You can talk!?" he asked her, eyes wide.
of course I can talk. What did you expect, some dumb animal that would cart you around like a horse? Her catlike eyes looked at him angrily. Jonah mearly nodded. well you were wrong. I am just as inteligent as you. So is Orin.
"Of course you are dearheart. I'm so sorry." Jonah wrapped his arms around the giant feathered head. She nuzzled him warmly. Quarna interrupted the intimate moment.
"We can't stay here. My uncle is still in power here. I have a place we can go." Se led her new council away from the hill, into the woods. Her hand clutched around Gerret's.
